The Importance of fan shroud s for Peterbilt & Kenworth Trucks

If you own a Peterbilt 359 379 387 or Kenworth T600,T800 or W900. You need to inspect the fan shroud on a regular basis. We have had numerous customer's who have their truck in the shop assuming their radiators were the problem for the engine running warmer than normal. They are replacing their radiator or thermostat and evan the water pump trying to solve their heating problem. They do not realize the importance of the fan shroud for their Peterbilt or Kenworth truck. A fan shroud's purpose is to divert air threw the radiator. If the Peterbilt or Kenworth fan shroud has a piece missing, crack or missing installation bolts. The air can be diverted around the radiator, instead of threw it. Any of these problems can cause the engine temp to rise 7 to 10 degrees. In some situations we have seen the shroud rub holes in radiator tubes, causing premature failure of the radiator. In extreme situations it will rub threw the header plate (what the radiator tank attaches to) causing a coolant leak. A worn header plate is unrepairable. A couple of loose fan shroud bolts just cost the owner 1500.00 dollars and lost revenue until the problem is fixed.
