Premature Failure on Mack Mr & Mack Le Sanitation Truck Radiators

We have been recieving a lot of complaints from our customers that are using Mack Mr & Mack Me chassis in the sanitation business. The oem Mack unit is falling apart in less than a year. The radiator has a lot of design flaws in my opinion. I will talk about the 2 major problems.
I feel the oil coolers are a accident waiting to happen. When the oem Mack radiator comes into our shop we will not warranty the repair unless the custoner replaces the oil cooler. The failure rate is off the charts the cooler has no visual signs of wear or stress. We test the cooler to 120psi and it will test fine. After the core is rebuilt and the tanks are reinstalled. The unit will will be back in 2 days or 6 months with the oem Mack oil cooler leaking fluid into the radiator. The really bad thing about it also junks a 15k tranny when it fails. My customers just love me at this time and Mack smiles all the way to the bank with another tranny sale.

The core opening for the power take off box has no reinforcemant.
When you construct a pto core with a serpentine fin(designed for automotive use looks like a v and zig zags)I feel they have to many places for the core to expand and crack tubes. To break it down a little further the oem Mack radiator has 4 small cores. 1 to the left of the pto box 1 on top of pto 1 on the bottom of the pto and 1 to the right of the pto. If you look at the core you will understand my explanation.
The oem Mack radiator will always crack a tube by the pto box or one of the row's were the cores come together. If it is a expansion problem you will see the fin's crushed by the cracked tube.

The repair is limited at this time to closing the cracked tube. But the integrity of the core is ruined. Another tube will crack soon.
In a nut shell we suggest replacing the radiator instead of repairing it.
